The age old battle that was Sega vs. Nintendo and which was best is still raging on decades after the two companies launched the Sega Genesis aka Mega Drive and Nintendo Entertainment System. You were either all in on Sega and hated the evil Nintendo or vise-sersa. Well, it doesn’t need to be that way anymore.
Earlier in the year, there was the release of the NES in a smaller form factor known as the NES Classic Edition which allowed you to play 30 different classic NES games that were pre-loaded onto the system.
Now it is Sega’s turn for a comeback of sorts with the Sega Mega Drive. Can we even call it a comeback, though? Maybe the Mega Drive never left?
Apparently, the Mega Drive system still sells around 150,000 units each year in Brazil. As a result of this a Brazilian company named Tectoy is going to be manufacturing under the Sega name as an officially licensed Sega product. Tectoy was the maker of the original Mega Drive in the late 80’s, early 90’s.

This new incarnation of the Mega Drive has been designed to look and function almost exactly like the original version from 1989, including the original iconic Sega 3-button controller. The difference, this Mega Drive will come with 22 games pre-loaded.
The chance of this selling well outside of Brazil seems to be slim, though. The Mega Drive will only connect to TV’s via traditional composite AV cables instead of modern inputs like HDMI. Price isn’t going to help either, coming in at $138 (plus shipping and import fees).
