Many of us today are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of riding a bicycle to work, or for getting around town, the problem for most is not that we are too lazy and don’t want to put forth the effort. The issue, I feel, is that the majority of us do not want to arrive at work, or wherever your destination may be, tired and sweaty, then having to start your work day.
I used to ride to work a few times a week. The trip was 11 km to the office, and by the time I arrived, I was hot sweaty, and the last thing I wanted to do was put on my “business” clothes and sit down at my desk.
This is where a product like the Electron Wheel could come in extremely handy.
So, what is it?
The Electron Wheel is a nearly universal electric wheel that replaces the
The Electron has 250-watt motor with a maximum speed of 20 mph or 32 km for us Canadians. A 10.7 Ah lithium-ion battery that provides a range of up to 30 miles (48 km). The battery is also sporting the ability to quickly recharge in about 2 hours with the optional 4-watt quick charger.
How does it work?
The Electron is an app-connected device that you monitor and control via the Android or iOS app available from electron using a Bluetooth 4.0 LE connection. The motor is pedal assisted meaning the more work you put into pedaling, the greater your range and speed should be.
Installation is claimed only to take about 30 seconds as well, which is much better than most other electric bicycle conversions. This installation includes removal of your old front wheel followed by installing the Electron wheel and pedal assist sensor. So a bit more than 30 seconds. Either way, though, it is a seemingly easy conversion.
The Electron comes in especially handy in hilly areas. Have a look at the video below and watch how effortlessly the Electron propels the ride through the streets of San Francisco.
The Electron wheel comes in two sizes, a 26″ and 28″ tire size.
It can be purchased from Electron directly for $799, plus an additional $85 if you which to add the quick charger add on.
